Paul S. Howard, MD, FACS, FAAP
Dr. Howard has practiced plastic surgery in Birmingham, Alabama since 1986 and is nationally recognized as a specialist in cosmetic surgery as well as an authority in cleft lip, palate, and craniofacial surgery. Dr. Howard limits his practice to cosmetic surgery on adults and facial reconstructive surgery on children. Dr. Howard has his undergraduate degree from Florida State University in Chemistry. He received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and studied general surgery under Dr. John Kirkin and Dr. Arnold G. Diethelm. With the guidance of Dr. Anthony Marzoni at UAB, Dr. Howard studied plastic surgery under the world famous D. Ralph Millard, Jr., M.D. at the University of Miami. Dr. Howard then studied craniofacial surgery with Dr. Tony Wolfe in Miami, Florida, and Dr. Paul Tessier in Paris, France. Since returning to Birmingham in 1986, Dr. Howard has received recognition as both a teacher and practitioner of plastic surgery. He has participated in more than 35 teaching courses and major lectures across the United States and Canada, and has published numerous papers on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Howard is board certified in Plastic Surgery and belongs to more than twenty medical associations and societies. Dr. Howard has a daughter, Alexandra, with whom he enjoys gourmet cooking and snow skiing. Another hobby is weight training, and he is an avid student of the medical history of Alabama. He has published five articles describing the plight of medical doctors and surgeons in Alabama during the nineteenth century. Additionally, Dr. Howard is the Founder and President of the NewFace Foundation, Inc., a 501 ( c ) ( 3 ), non-profit corporation that provides care for children born with craniofacial deformities. Dr. Howard has traveled to foreign countries such as Romania in 1996, and Honduras in 2000, to perform plastic surgery on facially deformed children.
