Mastopexy (Breast Lift) A Mastopexy is an operation performed to raise and recontour sagging breast. The Procedure The operation is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Prior to or during the operation, measurements are made to determine the skin incisions that will be used and the optimum location for the nipple. It must be emphasized that no two breasts are ever exactly the same size and usually any size discrepancy will remain after surgery. Most often the operation results are an inverted T-shaped scar with extends downward from the nipple and then sideways from the center of the chest beneath the breast fold. It is very important to understand that all patients wish for the smallest and most innocuous scars possible. The mastopexy operation ALWAYS requires scars to be placed on the breast although in certain cases these scars can be minimized. Your surgeon always recommends the type of mastopexy requiring the fewest scars to achieve your aesthetic goals.
These diagrams show the full T-shaped scar. There are cases that a scar around the areola is only required. You will need to consult with Dr. Howard to determine is this minimal scar will best fit you to achieve your aesthetic goals.
